Digital Video Production for Teachers
FRIDAY, OCT 12, 8:30 AM-4:00 PM
Spend the statewide in-service day learning the basics of planning and creating simple video programs. This hands-on workshop, an optional preview to the 2008 Media Arts Academy for Teachers, which takes place in Summer 2008, introduces K-12 educators to the media production process, from video camera operation and the visualization of images, to preparing for and conducting basic digital video editing. An intense and fun day, teachers will undertake a short group project designed to build self- confidence and demonstrate each phase of the creative process. The goal is for participants to end the session with ideas for how media production might be incorporated into their own classroom. Handouts include samples of student-produced documentaries, animation and dramas on DVD. No previous experience required. Equipment is provided, but individuals are encouraged to bring a video camera from their school’s own inventory.
The Media Arts Academy for Teachers, an annual week-long summer institute co-offered with Portland State University, focuses on how media production can be integrated into the K-12 curriculum, and is open to Oregon educators from all academic subject areas and grade levels. Participants in this optional workshop will receive priority Academy registration and a 20% tuition discount for the Summer 2008 session. Our thanks to the National Endowment for the Arts, Oregon Arts Commission and Rose E. Tucker Charitable Trust for their support of this program.
