DIRECTOR: NIELS ARDEN OPLEV
DENMARK
Based on a newspaper story Oplev read about a girl expelled from the Jehovah's Witness Church, Worlds Apart tells the story of Sara, a pretty, sheltered 17-year-old who goes from door to door with her community members to preach about judgment day and eternal salvation. But when Sara meets and falls in love with the worldly Teis--not a Jehovah's Witness--she is confronted with the most difficult choice of her life. Torn between her conscience, faith and passion, she is forced to choose between her own desires and those of her family. As Sara, Rosalinde Mynster gives a magical, sensitive portrayal of a quiet girl who, traveling the path to self-awareness, undergoes a subtle metamorphosis. This year's Danish submission for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar. ( 108 min )
