THE 10-MINUTE RULE
Seats for advance ticket and pass holders are held until 10 minutes before showtime,
when any unfilled seats are released to the public. Thus, advance tickets or passes
ensure that you will not have to wait in the ticket purchase line but do not guarantee
a seat in the case of arrival after the 10-minute window has begun. Your early arrival
also helps get screenings started promptly. We appreciate your understanding. Advance
ticket holders who arrive within the 10-minute window but are not seated may exchange
their tickets for another screening at the Ticket Outlet or obtain a cash refund at
the theater. There are no refunds or exchanges for late arrivals or for missed screenings.
DIRECTOR: RASOUL MOLLAGHOLIPOUR
IRAN
The latest film by Mollagholipour (who died at age 50 last year) is this year's Iranian submission for the best Foreign Film Oscar, and is one of the most widely seen films in the history of Iranian cinema. Sepideh (Golshifteh Farahani) is injured by chemical attacks during the 1980-88 Iraq-Iran war; years later, when she is expecting her first baby, she discovers that the embryo is damaged due to the chemicals' effects on her body. The father does not want a disabled child; the mother insists on going ahead with the birth. Mollagholipour's compassionate film teaches that the only way to rise above tragedy and live a normal life is through unity and love. Print courtesy of the Farabi Cinema Foundation. ( 112 min )
Selected Filmography: Flight in the Night (87), Help Me (97), Lunar Eclipse (92).

PERSIAN CARPET
DIRECTOR: VARIOUS DIRECTORS
IRAN
The Persian carpet is an essential part of Persian art and culture. First created by nomadic tribes as a household necessity for harsh winters, carpets evolved into vehicles of artistic expression for both the makers and the cultures from which they came. Taking the Persian Carpet as a general theme and inspiration, 15 filmmakers—including such acclaimed directors as Jafar Panahi, Bahman Farmanara, Abbas Kiarostami, Majid Majidi, and Darius Mehrjui—have contributed to this omnibus film, each choosing their own subject and form for an independent short film. Set throughout the country and taking the forms of narrative, documentary, animation, music video and video art, the films marry one of the culture's oldest art forms to some of its newest, and fashion an intriguing celebration of a rich cultural legacy. Complete program notes will be available at the screenings. Print courtesy of Farabi Cinema Foundation. ( 120 min )
