DIRECTOR: ANGELIKI ANTONIOU
GREECE
Eduart is the true story of the fate of an illegal Albanian refugee, an account of the chaos and hopelessness that characterizes Europe's most troubled region. Eduart illegally emigrates to Greece dreaming of a career in rock music. But life in Athens is less rosy than he imagined, and he ends up living as a thief and prostitute until the day he kills a man. He escapes back to Albania, but nonetheless ends up in a brutal prison. There, he meets a German doctor, Christof, who is also serving a life sentence. The encounter has decisive consequences for Eduart, and a new journey begins when the prison is stormed during Albania's collapse and he joins a stream of prisoners and refugees escaping fate. Winner of the Greek Competition Awards for Best Director, Film and Screenplay at the Thessaloniki Film Festival, and this year's Greek submission for the Best Foreign Film Oscar.
