THE 10-MINUTE RULE
Seats for advance ticket and pass holders are held until 10 minutes before showtime, when any unfilled seats are released to the public. Thus, advance tickets or passes ensure that you will not have to wait in the ticket purchase line but do not guarantee a seat in the case of arrival after the 10-minute window has begun. Your early arrival also helps get screenings started promptly. We appreciate your understanding. Advance ticket holders who arrive within the 10-minute window but are not seated may exchange their tickets for another screening at the Ticket Outlet or obtain a cash refund at the theater. There are no refunds or exchanges for late arrivals or for missed screenings.

UP THE YANGTZE
DIRECTOR: YUNG CHANG
CANADA
Inspired by a family "farewell cruise" along the Yangtze River before its flooding by the Three Gorges Dam, Chang originally wanted to make a film about social hierarchy, an Upstairs, Downstairs of cruise-life above and below the decks, but his documentary ultimately took on more epic proportions. A symbol of China's economic prowess, the Dam is the world's largest and China's biggest engineering feat since the Great Wall. It also represents the end of a way of life for the two million people who live along the river's edge. Among those being forced to relocate are the Yu family. Poor, illiterate farmers with few options available, they decide to send their oldest daughter to work on one of the luxury tourist boats working the Yangtze. Chen Bo Yu, the only son from a middle-class family, also works on the ship, but sees only opportunity in the changes. Yung Chang's surreal journey along the river is a beautifully photographed and moving metaphor for life in contemporary China. Print courtesy of the National Film Board of Canada. ( 93 min )

Filmography: The Fish Market (02), Earth To Mouth (03).
An extra encore screening of this film has been added at 10:45 AM Sunday February 24th at the Whitsell Auditorium.
