DIRECTOR: DANIELE LUCHETTI
ITALY
It is the late 1960s, and adolescent brothers Accio and Manrico are struggling, like Italy itself, to form their identities. Accio's Fascist, Radical Right leanings—mostly a rebellion against the Leftist/Communist ideals espoused by his south of Rome, working-class family—create fractures the brothers must labor to mend. Written by Sandro Petraglia and Stefano Rulli, whose memorable The Best of Youth illuminated the post-World War II years in Italy, My Brother Is An Only Child offers warm humor and a defiant vista of hope even when tragedy is in store. As they experience the ups and downs that test their affectionate but tempestuous relationship over the course of 15 years, they finally realize that they're more alike than they ever knew.
