    Jim Blashfield

    JIM BLASHFIELD is a filmmaker and media artist best known for his short films such as SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES, THE MID-TORSO OF INEZ, and his studio’s music videos from the 1980s and ’90s for Talking Heads, Joni Mitchell, Nu Shooz, Paul Simon, Peter Gabriel, Michael Jackson, Tears for Fears, and Marc Cohn. More recently he has collaborated with Bill Frisell, the Oregon Symphony, and Weird Al Yankovic. Blashfield is the recipient of a Cannes Golden Lion, Grammy Award, several MTV nominations and awards, and a RACC Media Arts Fellowship. Other films include BUNNYHEADS, SUCTIONMASTER, and 2010’s VANITY. Multi-image installations include RUNNING DOG WITH CACTUS and THE RESURRECTORY, a collaboration with the Liminal Performance Group, as well as 2011’s CIRCULATOR for the Brightwater Environmental Center, chosen as one of the year’s top public art projects. The five-screen, 20-day-long installation CONVEYOR, for the Port of Portland, was completed in 2010. He is currently working on the public art project FLOODED DATA MACHINE REPLICA, to be installed on the new light rail bridge across the Willamette. He continues to work on his latest experimental narrative film, BADGER 5.

    Blashfield screens two programs of his work in the Whitsell Auditorium on Friday, October 26 at 7 p.m. (Music Videos) and Thursday, November 8 at 7 p.m. (Short Films). Note: screening attendance is not required for workshop registration.
