This course builds on the foundation laid in ART OF FILMMAKING I and offers those with basic shooting and editing experience the opportunity to advance skills while pursuing more ambitious filmmaking projects in HD video. Shooting styles, lighting techniques, and editing strategies will be explored as students investigate the creative possibilities of the short narrative, documentary, and experimental genres and experience the workflows of a full narrative crew, small documentary crew, and going it alone. The class covers the details of pre-production and planning, including creating a production budget; learning to visualize using digital storyboards; the logistics of lighting, shooting, and sound recording under different conditions; as well as taking film projects through all the phases of post-production including color correction and sound design. Students should expect to spend outside time on their film production. HD camera and editing equipment provided through Equipment/Lab Fee. A memory card and portable hard drive are each student's responsibility.
