This course is the first of a two-course sequence (PORTFOLIO SEQUENCE: PRODUCTION and PORTFOLIO SEQUENCE: EDITING) which satisfies the final requirements for completing any one of the three levels of the School’s optional Certificates of Completion. Through the sequence, intermediate and advanced students produce a major personal project of their own design, drawing upon their previous studies and self-identified interests. The project may be in any genre or combination of styles but is limited to a running time of 12 minutes. Class participants may assume all or most of the primary creative roles on the production (e.g., director, cinematographer, editor, writer) or work in an ensemble, as long as the project showcases the abilities of each ensemble member in two or more primary creative roles each. In addition to a primary project, each class member will crew on at least two other class projects in other essential capacities such as producer, assistant director, or as part of a technical crew. As participants progress through concept development, treatment and scriptwriting, pre-production, and principal photography, the emphasis will be on student-generated critique and feedback with faculty acting as facilitators. All project filming must be completed before the last class. Participants then enroll in PORTFOLIO SEQUENCE: EDITING during Summer Term 2012, during which projects will be fully edited and students will be guided in creating an artist statement, biography, synopsis, and filmography. Equipment for up to five shooting days provided by Equipment/Lab Fee. Out-of-facility expenses are each student's responsibility.
