ARTS / EXHIBITION INTERN
Description:
• The Northwest Film Center is
the largest regional media arts organization in the Pacific
Northwest. The Intern is involved with promotion of Film Center
programs in order to gain a working knowledge of the inner workings
of a major arts organization. In addition to developing organizational
skills, the Intern will specifically acquire and apply skills
in community outreach.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Assist in promoting Film Center events and exhibition
and education programs
•
Develop community contacts relating to specific programs
• Organize special projects related
to promotion and publicity General clerical duties including
answering phones, data entry, bulk mailings, etc.
Qualifications:
• Must possess excellent written
and verbal communication skills
• Background in the arts preferred.
Knowledge of film helpful
• Ability to work independently
with minimal supervision
• Interpersonal skills and ability
to deal with the public
• Organized, methodical work habits
and attention to detail
• Ability to work creatively with
limited resources
• Some Macintosh skills helpful
Hours:
• Part-time position; a minimum
commitment of fifteen hours per week weekdays during business
hours.
Compensation:
• Unpaid position. Interns
will have free admission to Film Center exhibition programs
(excluding special admission and festival programs). They
may in some cases have tuition waived for classes and seminars
and equipment rental.
Duration:
• Spring: April - July (deadline

FESTIVAL / EXHIBITION INTERN
Description:
Festival/Exhibition interns get a
unique opportunity to see the blood, sweat and tears involved in
organizing film festivals. Work closely on programming, planning,
and marketing the REEL Music Festival, Jewish Film Festival, and The
Portland International Film Festival. Enjoy perks including a
behind-the-scenes look at festival programming and Portland filmmaking,

Qualifications:
• Excellent organizational skills!
Detail oriented!
• Excellent written and verbal

• Knowledge of film/arts
• A tolerance for tedious
databasing, alphabatizing, and film reviewing
• Knowledge of Mac computers,
Excel and Word

EDUCATION INTERN
Education Interns will gain a working knowledge of the operations and services of one of the country’s largest regional media arts centers and community film schools.
Hours: Flexible hours, but a minimum of 12-15 hours per week is required.
Daytime, evening, weekday and weekend shifts available.
Compensation: This in an unpaid volunteer position.
Benefits: The Intern may develop organizational, administrative, technical and
interpersonal skills which can later be applied in a wide range of
employment situations. Specific skills in film and video production
may be learned, including operation of cameras, projectors, and editing software.
Interns may receive references and recommendations for future employment
or education opportunities, and become qualified to become considered for specific job openings at the Film Center. Interns may attend regular admission Film Center Exhibition Program screenings free of charge.
Dates: Fall Term - mid-September through mid-December
Winter Term - mid-January through mid-May
Summer Term - early June through late August

Duties and Responsibilities:
Works with education staff on basic activities associated with equipment maintenance/checkout, inventory control, public inquiries, customer service, registration and promotion/marketing.
Assists staff in monitoring use of the School of Film facility.
Assists with assembling and testing equipment for instructional use; cleans, arranges and sets up rooms for classes and workshops.
Duplicates printed and media materials; performs DVD duplication.
May work on special projects related to student recruitment, curriculum development, youth media festival coordination, film archiving, and other areas.
Attributes and Qualifications:
Ability to work independently and creatively with limited resources.
Organized and methodical with strong attention to detail.
Macintosh computer skills desirable; basic knowledge of film and/or video equipment preferred.

FESTIVALS
INTERN
Description:
The Festival Assistant will develop a working knowledge of
the independent film arts by assisting in the production and
promotion of one of the country's largest regional film festivals,
the Northwest Film & Video Festival.
Hours:
Flexible hours, minimum of 10 hours a week required. Must
be able to work 15 hours a week during the festival, November
7-16.
Benefits:
The Festival Assistant will gain an understanding of the independent
filmmaking community in the Northwest, as well as develop
organizational and technical skills useful in producing large-scale
events. Upon completion of the internship, assistants may
be eligible to receive recommendations and references for
future employment. During the course of the internship, assistants
may attend regular admission Film Center screenings free of
charge.
Dates:
Early June through November
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Reports to the Exhibition Program Assistant
and aides in coordinating several aspects of the Northwest
Film & Video Festival, including outreach to artists and
arts organizations.
• Receives and organizes entries for the NWFVF
and maintains a database of Northwest artists.
• Assists in light clerical duties, shipping, and
organization of print traffic.
Attributes and
Qualifications:
• Ability to work independently with limited resources.
• Ability to commit to internship through the end
of November 2003
• Macintosh computer skills necessary
• File Maker Pro knowledge helpful but not required.
