This non-degree optional track within the School of Film is for highly motivated and self-directed individuals who wish the benefit of intense faculty advising, and who are willing to make a long term commitment to the School and their personal goals in film. Individuals must have already taken at least two core courses from the open curriculum at the time of application.

In consultation with a faculty advisor, participants may take up to 5 years to pursue a sequence of 12 core courses, three elective courses, two elective workshops and a culminating final film project. In addition to learning practical and artistic skills in a methodical way, students develop a portfolio (reel) of their work and have the opportunity to make contacts with other emerging and practicing media artists.

Those admitted to the program receive pre-registration privileges, on-going advising by faculty and staff, extended equipment access, discounts on Eastman Kodak film stock and Film Center equipment access, free admission to specified exhibition programs, and eligibility for internships and work opportunities.

Enrollment applications are reviewed on November 1 for those entering Winter Term and April 1 for Fall Term. A non-refundable Enrollment Fee of $125 must accompany the application. Candidates are screened via written application, review of media work to date, and in selected cases, personal interview. For a brochure and application materials, call 503-221-1156 x25 or email classes@nwfilm.org.
