COLD LIGHT - Hilmar Oddsson
What could be better than knowing your
future? And what could be worse? Flashing back and forth
between past and present, Oddsson's warm and tender
story of chilling clairvoyance is about a 40-year-old
loner in Reykjavik haunted by events, perhaps ones he
could have prevented, from his childhood. Enrolling
in an art class, Grimur falls in love with his instructor
and slowly begins to bridge the chasm forged by loss.
Through the fantastical drawings of his youth, which
act as portals to the past, Grimur ultimately confronts
his demons and finds the courage to embrace a new adult
life. The majestic Icelandic landscape serves as a beautiful
backdrop for a film that alternates hard reality with
a dose of the Icelandic supernatural. "Nature plays
a central role in the film . . . as it slowly transforms
from the vivid and mild colors of summer and autumn
to the cold blue light of winter and snow, one can almost
see it as one of the protagonists of the story."—Hilmar
Oddsson. (1:33:00) Print courtesy of Media Luna.
