PRODUCING ADULTS-
Aleksi Salmenperä
Venla, a psychologist at a fertility clinic,
can hear her biological clock ticking. Unfortunately,
her speed skater boyfriend Antero isn't even remotely
prepared for parental responsibility—he's only
certain he is on the verge of a breakthrough in his
athletic pursuits if he can only train just a little
harder. Afraid of losing Venla, Antero is less than
willing to tell her they don't see eye to eye about
children. Together, they play a game of denial. When
she learns of his secret vasectomy, her mind turns to
the storeroom at work, housing millions of sperm samples
lying dormant in liquid nitrogen. He is tall with brown
hair and blue eyes—that’s all she knows
about the future father. But her dreams of creating
an ordinary family life start to crumble when symptoms
of a romantic kind start to blossom between her and
Satu, a sympathetic female doctor who has agreed to
help her. As the ironic title of Salmenperä’s
film—sometimes wryly amusing, but more often honestly
touching—suggests, Velna and Antero aren't struggling
to raise children, they're struggling to raise themselves.
