HERE - Zrinko Ogresta

Writer-director Ogresta’s film is a poignant reflection on contemporary Croatia’s coming to terms with its recent past. A series of six loosely linked mini-dramas feature a dozen characters attempting to find identity, meaning and self-preservation in a war-torn country. In the first, set during the war against Serbia, a group of militiamen taunt a crazed vagabond and even though one soldier comes to the poor man's aid this same soldier also ends up hurting the man the most. Later, the soldier reappears, wandering aimlessly through his former home, which now is inhabited by his wife and her new husband. A young drug addict destroys her home while desperately looking for a fix; a television actor gives the bottle his honor and love; and a teenage boy tries to support his exhausted and embittered father.
