Reality and fantasy blur in this silent, black-and-white
movie that harks back to Chaplin’s socio-critical comedies.
Pedro, a factory-worker, who shares a one-room shanty with
another family, wants to throw a party for his wife. The problem
is he doesn’t have any money. When he loses his job,
he is able to conceal the fact thanks to the “Director
of Sales” badge he finds in his factory. Daydream turns
to delusion, however, when he embarks on a road-trip with
his family and neighbors. Scarcely able to pay his own grocery
bills, he adopts the lifestyle of a millionaire, handing out
money to street kids, dining out in the best restaurants and
organizing his wife’s dream party. However, life is
a cruel settler of accounts, and Pedro will have to pay a
price… Full of humor and affection, Margarette’s
Feast is a vivid and sometimes darkly surreal portrait of
life on the fringes of Brazilian society. Print courtesy of
