DRAWING OUT THE DEMONS
David Vaisbord Vancouver, BC
Badboy painter Attila Richard Lukacs is frantic, desperate, passionate, and brilliant. Originally from Vancouver, he made a name for himself in Germany for his enormous canvasses that explore the intersection between violence and eroticism in skinhead imagery. After years of trying to establish a career as an artist in the New York Art world, however, he finds himself a virtual unknown, unable to afford his Meat Packing District studio and addicted to crystal meth. To pull himself out of his spiral he needs the help of his agent/boyfriend, his family and the few gallery owners that believe in him, but Lukacs’ artistic temper and drug addiction threaten to alienate him from his support system. Vaisbord’s riveting portrait provides a rare peek into the international art scene with one of its Enfant Terribles as a tour guide. (78 mins.)
