ROBERT'S STORY: DYING WITH DIGNITY
Tom D’Antoni & Greg Bond Portland, OR
Discussion abounds in the courts, press, church and families about the implications of Oregon’s controversial Death With Dignity Act, which allows doctors to prescribe a lethal dose of medication to terminally ill patients who wish to end their life. But the individuals who are most affected by the law are rarely given the chance to give their side of the story. ROBERT’S STORY follows Robert Schwartz, a man living with advanced HIV disease, who is ready to end his life. Director and producer Tom D’Antoni gained access to the most intimate aspects of Robert’s life, including interactions with his family, his lover, his doctors and his caregivers, emerges with a moving portrait of the most difficult decision a person can ever make, and putting a human face on the political and moral debate.
