
Daniel M. Ackerman is a Director/DP of stop-motion animation, green-screen/effects, product and time-lapse photography. He is a specialist in camera controls and lighting/rigging set-ups for complex shooting scenarios. Ackerman graduated from Cal-Arts in 1984 with a BFA in Film Graphics and Animation. There he made PORTAL, a hand drawn film resembling computer-graphic films of that time which took awards by the Chicago International Film Festival and selected for best of show at SIGRAGH in 1985.
Ackerman was Animation Technical Director for animation in the feature film “One Crazy Summer”, Supertramp’s “Brother where you Bound”, Second Unit Director of Photography for “What the Bleep do you Know”, Lighting Camerman for 3 seasons of the animated TV series “The PJ’s”as well as DP on multiple National and Regional TV commercials. He Directed the music video “Berlin” for Mark Clement, “Meet the Owls” a three minute stop motion animation for OwlPals.com, as well as many corporate and industrial films. Ackerman has worked for several animation specialty houses such as Vinton Studios, Bent Image Lab and Laika Studios providing lighting services, stock footage and effects photography. Ackerman has taught film classes and lectured on the subjects of lighting, animation, photography and filmmaking for many years.
He is presently the owner/operator of Ackerman Films, LLC and Stage-13, Dan’s shooting venue for all filmmakers: Student, Indie, commercial, animation, whatever. His philosophy: help others in the craft of filmmaking.
